Indian Technology Institute (IIT) Guwahati ranked third among the country's cleanest higher education institutions.
The university was ranked third under the 2019 Swachhata Ranking Awards in the category of ' Residential University-AICTE. '
IIT Guwahati Director T G Sitharam and IIT Guwahati Dean of Public Relations, Branding and Ranking Parameswar K Iyer presented the award at a function in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The ranking process for the award was undertaken as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.
The HRD Ministry launched the Swachhata Ranking Award scheme to create peer pressure among educational institutions to improve their level of campus hygiene as well as take up off-campus hygiene activities in nearby villages / areas.
The ranking system was based on various hygiene parameters such as student-toilet ratio, hostel hygiene, hostel kitchen hygiene, water availability, water conservation initiatives, campus greenery, administrative hygiene duty, etc.
While addressing the third edition of the Swachhata Ranking Award function through video conferencing, Union Minister for Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ' Nishank ' asked the students to strive to achieve zero tolerance to anything unhygienic in the environment.
He also congratulated the winners of various categories and expressed happiness at the efforts of the educational institutions in keeping their premises clean.
