A 54-year-old transporter was pounded to death by unidentified aggressors in the Dhalai region of Tripura.
Police said the episode occurred when he was driving his merchandise loaded vehicle from Assam to Agartala.
A gathering of unidentified scoundrels thrashed Pradip Debnath to death at Ambassa in the Dhalai region (in eastern Tripura) on Friday night while he was driving his Agartala-bound truck from Assam through National Highway-8, IGL (Law and Order) Arindam Nath said.
Statement from Police:
"We have a few pieces of information about the occurrence. One individual was kept. Police are exploring the situation. As the investigation is at a beginning phase, we can't unveil the subtleties behind the wrongdoing," Nath said.
The relatives of the killed transporter claimed the reprobates additionally plundered Rs 40,000 from Debnath, an occupant of Teliamura in western Tripura.
Local people told the police that the hooligans, who were going in a Bolero vehicle, halted the truck before hauling Debnath out.
