A Widow Killed by Villagers Suspected of Practicing Witchcraft

In another incident of witch-hunting, a 53-year-old widow lost her life in Assam’s Sonitpur district.

 

According to sources, the incident happened at No 1 Geruajuli in Sonitpur district’s Rangapara area.

 

The woman has been identified as Laksheswari Daimary.

 

The body of the lady, who was a mother of 4 children, was found buried in a forest on Sunday.

 

The woman was killed on Saturday night.

 

Sources said, “A group of individuals barged into the house of Laksheswari Daimary at 11 pm on Saturday and thrashed her with sticks to death.”

 

Not only that, the group of individuals took the body of the lady to a forest, around 1 km from the village, and buried it there.

 

The group also tried to kill Laksheswari Daimary’s grandson Mohit Daimary, sources said.

 

In the morning on Sunday, the locals recovered Mohit Daimary together with his hands and legs tied.

 

After rescuing him, the locals came to understand all about the Saturday night incident.

 

Based on the knowledge provided by the locals, the police with the assistance of villagers were ready to recover the body of the lady buried within the forest.

 

During the exhumation of the woman’s body, the circle officer of the Chariduar revenue circle, Aditi Goi was present.

 

The locals said, “She was killed suspecting that she had practiced witchcraft because she was earlier harassed by a neighborhood of superstitious people.
