Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who has made Assam and the country proud with her tenacious performance at the Tokyo Olympics, is looking forward to a hearty welcome back home.
After overcoming Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals, the Assamese boxer had already added her name to the list of Indian Olympic medalists.
"I don't want to stop on bronze. I want to go for the gold. Medal is only one. That is gold," During a press conference following her bout, Lovlina said. Despite failing to win gold, Lovlina became the third Indian boxer to reach the Olympics podium, following Vijender Singh and Mary Kom in 2008 and 2012, respectively.
Charter buses will be circulating Assam streets with her posters on all coaches in an effort to pay honour to this great daughter of Assam.
Earlier, a prominent meat processing firm in Assam declared that for the next five years, it will send packaged pork known as "A slice of Gahoree" to Lovlina Borgohain, Assam's Olympic medallist, as a symbol of appreciation for her efforts in bringing tremendous laurels to the state.
The company's top head said, "Congratulations to Lovlina for the historic achievement. We are very very proud of you! As a small token of love and appreciation, we would like to offer her our free packaged pork for the next 5 years."
Further adding, he said: "We believe our product will help her become stronger with the continuous supply of quality proteins so that no one will be able to beat her in next Olympics."
Lovlina, who began her career in Muay Thai, a style of martial arts, was defeated in the semifinals by defending world champion Busenaz Surmeneli.
It should be noted that Lovlina Borgohain lost her semi-final bout in the welterweight women's boxing at the Tokyo Olympics to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey, and Lovlina had to settle for a bronze medal.
On August 12, Lovlina will arrive in Guwahati for a felicitation ceremony at the Srimanta Shankardev Kala Kshetra.
