Mizoram : Cash reward to family with maximum children.
In order to encourage the population growth among the demographically small Mizo communities, a cash incentive of Rs 1 lakh has been announced by Mizoram Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte to a living family having the highest number of children.
The Minister said that the cost of the incentive will be taken by a construction consultancy firm owned by his son and the person will be given a certificate along a trophy. Royte however did not informed about the minimum number of children.
When my Indian states are facing a population control policy, the Mizoram Minister came up with this initiative.
Minister Robert Romawia Royte is from Aizawl East-2 assembly constituency. He stated that the infertility rate and decrease in population growth rate of the Mizo community has become a matter of concern.
“Mizoram is far below the optimum number of people to attain development in various fields because of the gradual decline in its population. The low population is a serious issue and hurdle for small communities or tribes like Mizos to survive and progress,” Royte said.
To support population growth, a baby boom policy has been taken up by some churches and influential civil society organizations like the Young Mizo Association, informed Royte.
