East Khasi Hills District: Second Highest Cancer Rate in the Country

Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek on Thursday said East Khasi Hills locale has the most noteworthy tobacco-related cancer cases and the second-most noteworthy disease frequency rate in the country. 

 

"Indeed, according to the National Cancer Registry Program, Cancer measurements 2020, East Khasi Hills locale of Meghalaya has the second-most noteworthy disease occurrence rate. East Khasi Hills locale has the most noteworthy relative extent of cancer growths related to the utilization of tobacco for both males and females," He told the Assembly. 

 

He said tobacco-related cancer growth of 66.9 per cent in men and 43.1 per cent in ladies in the area is the most noteworthy in the country.

The Health Minister likewise said that the all outnumber of cancer growth patients from East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills, and Ri-Bhoi region is 7,014 in the previous five years. 

 

As indicated by senior wellbeing authorities, there were 3,281 passings because of cancer from the four locales in the previous five years with 2,068 of them being men.
