Meghalaya to Have 3 New Oxygen Plants

Meghalaya will found out 3 oxygen generation plants one each in East Khasi Hills district, West Garo Hills district, and West Jaiñtia Hills district.

The PM CARES Fund has given in-principle approval for the allocation of funds for the installation of 551 dedicated Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Medical Oxygen Generation Plants inside public health facilities within the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that dedicated oxygen generation plants are going to be established in identified government hospitals in district headquarters in various states/UTs.

PM Modi announced as reports of the oxygen crisis are pouring in at a time when Covid19 positive cases are on the increase at an alarming rate and lots of of the infected people have lost lives thanks to lack of oxygen.

These oxygen plants will function as a serious boost to oxygen availability at the district level by establishing within the identified government hospitals in district headquarters in various states/UTs.

The procurement is going to be done through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The PM CARES Fund had earlier this year allocated Rs.201.58 crore for the installation of additional 162 dedicated Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Medical Oxygen Generation Plants inside public health facilities within the country.

The basic aim behind establishing PSA Oxygen Generation Plants at government hospitals within the district headquarters is to further strengthen the general public health system and make sure that each of those hospitals features a captive oxygen generation facility.

It is expected that such an in-house captive oxygen generation facility would address the day-to-day medical oxygen needs of those hospitals and therefore the district.

Such a system will go an extended way in ensuring that government hospitals within the districts don't face sudden disruption of oxygen supplies and have access to adequate uninterrupted oxygen supply to manage the Covid19 patients and other patients who need such support.
