On Thursday, the Mizoram government announced a 5 per cent reservation for meritorious sportsmen in state government jobs.
The government of the state made the decision to promote sports excellence and make sports a more attractive career option.
A memorandum released by the department of state personnel and organizational changes said: “Five per cent of vacancies in Group B, C, and D posts, can be reserved for being filled by outstanding sportsperson who have represented the country in international level, who have represented the state in national level competitions, recognized by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, inter-university tournaments, and who have represented state school teams in national games.”
The nomination, to be made by direct recruitment, is also reserved for meritorious sportsmen who have represented their district and won the gold medal at games at the state level, the memorandum said.
Specific hiring can be carried out in 28 sporting disciplines, including football, boxing and cricket, provided that the candidate meets the eligibility criteria.
The upper age limit for appointment is up to 5 years (10 years for applicants from SC and ST).
These sportsmen who have represented the country at international level will be given first preference.
The Sports and Youth Service Division is given an authority to issue certificates to determine sportsperson's eligibility for direct recruitment of sportsperson-reserved vacancies.
