Pig import is banned in Mizoram due to ASF outbreak

The Mizoram government on Friday prohibited import of pigs and pig items, for example, pork hotdog, solidified pork meat and smoked pork meat taking into account the flare-up of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the neighbouring states.

A request gave by the state Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Department said that a total boycott has been forced on import of pigs and pig results of different sorts from the neighbouring nations and states because of the flare-up of ASF in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

It said that the pig fever has executed upwards of 20,000 pigs in the neighbouring states.

The ASF is a risky sickness and all pigs in Mizoram may be murdered on the off chance that it spread to the express, the request said.

The state was hit by PRRS in 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2020, murdering a large number of pigs and piglets, making a misfortune the tune of Rs 10.62 crore, authorities said.
