Sikkim University, as a team with the North East Center for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) and an NGO in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Swami Satyananda Ashram, has effectively developed saffron (kesar) in Sikkim unexpectedly.
In Sikkim, as a feature of the pilot venture, 100 kilograms of saffron bulbs were brought from Kashmir and planted in the agriculture nursery of the varsity's under-development perpetual grounds at Yangang, South Sikkim, toward the beginning of October.
In India, the saffron crop is presently filled in pockets of Kashmir.
