For the first time within the records of Olympics, at least one athelete each from among the male and female sexes to be to be taking part for the upcoming games at Tokyo, so as to ensure gender parity.
Adhering to which, India is now ready to send in two flag bearers. The Indian Olympic Association announced on Monday of their choice to appoint Boxer MC Mary Kom, the six-time global champion in conjunction with Manpreet Singh the men's hockey team skipper as the country's flag bearers at the preluding rite of the Tokyo Olympics.

Mary Kom will become India's 1/3 lady athletes the flag bearer following, Shiny Wilson for 1992 Barcelona Olympics and Anju Bobby George for 2004 Athens Olympics.
Previously, Abhinav Bindra- India's individual Olympic gold-medallist had been the flag bearer for the opening ceremony of 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"It might be a massive moment for me given that it is my final Olympics. Who knows I might even get emotionally overwhelmed," Mary Kom confessed to PTI quickly after being introduced as one of the starting flag bearers of the games.
For the last ceremony, wrestler Bajrang Punia who is India's biggest hope for medal this year is finalized to endure the flag on August 8.
