On Monday, Minister of DoNER, Jitendra Singh said that the first train from Tripura to Bangladesh is likely to start from next year.
Minister Singh said a railway line from Tripura to Bangladesh is under construction in full swing.
Singh said this when Biplab Kumar Deb, chief minister of Tripura, met with Singh on Monday in New Delhi.
The first ever train from Tripura to Akhaura from Bangladesh will depart from Agartala, the capital of the state.
Indian Railways and Bangladesh Railways are jointly carrying out the 15 km long cross-border railway project.
The commission is expected to take place by 2020.
The cost of the project is Rs 972.52 crore, which is funded on the Indian side by the Department of DoNER and on the Bangladesh side by the Department of External Affairs.
Singh and Deb discussed a number of issues related to development projects and civil services in Tripura during the meeting.
