Nagaland, the falcon capital of the world

Amur Falcon caused the world to notice Pangti Village under Wokha area where around 1,000,000 raptors visit for a very long time (October-November) during their 22,000-km-long yearly trips between Russia, China, and Africa. Ornithologists have regularly depicted Pangti’s yearly visit by raptors as ‘by a long shot the biggest and most stupendous perch of any types of Falcon ever observed anyplace on the planet’. It has procured Nagaland the moniker–the falcon capital of the world.

Amur Falcons are little yet a long inaccessible traveller flying creature of prey that breeds in eastern Russia and China, and every year flies around 22,000km right across Asia, over the Indian Ocean to wintering grounds in Southern Africa. According to the Tamenglong Forest Division, the main clump of the transitory birds, privately known as ‘Akhuaipuina’, were spotted by local people on October 9.
