Korean national abuses staffers from Nagaland, video goes viral

In a horrific incident, a Korean national was seen harassing his employees from Northeast India in Chennai. The incident came into light after a video went viral on social media.

In the video, a Korean man was seen abusing four of his employees and slapping them. The audio is inaudible but he appears to be questioning them about something.

The Korean national identified as Won Ji-Moon runs a guest house in Chennai and has employees youth from Northeast India.

After the video went viral, various students’ groups from Northeast have taken up the matter with concerned authorities.

President of Zeliangrong Students Union (Chennai), R Panmei, shared the video on social media on August 8. The union is a local organization formed to support students from the Northeast.

The victims have alleged that their employer used to abuse them regularly and had assaulted four of them on August 5. They were in charge of taking the final count of the inventory which had beer and Soju, Korean liquor. They were abused after a discrepancy was found in the final number.

In their police compliant, the victims have said that the Korean national was in an inebriated state and had assaulted them at the guest house.

The victims belong to the Zeliangrong and Sema tribes of Nagaland.

The victims were later reportedly rescued by the Chennai branch of the North East India Welfare Association.

A case under Sections 294 (b) (uttering obscene words) and Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been filed against the accused.
